New generation of young Swedes rejects Greta and the “Climate Crisis” – Doesn’t believe politicians can solve problems and questions “democracy”

More and more young Swedes are losing interest in and distancing themselves from classic “woke” idealistic issues such as the “Climate Crisis,” and thereby turning their backs on their iconic and world famous compatriot and climate guru, Greta Thunberg.

This is shown by surveys conducted by the polling firm The Youth Barometer, and their Generation Report 2025, which is based on interviews with over 17,000 young people aged 15 to 24.

In addition to climate and environmental issues, which are attracting fewer and fewer young Swedes, the survey also shows that today’s youth in Sweden are turning their backs on other values and institutions once held sacred in the country – shaped during the Boomer generation’s heyday – such as feminism and vegetarianism. Suddenly, these things are no longer considered “trendy” among the Swedish youth as before.

Instead, the survey indicates that young Swedes are increasingly leaning toward conservative and traditional values, rather than following the liberal path of previous generations.

“Young people are showing a longing for stable, long-term relationships – something that can be seen as a reaction to the growing uncertainty in society. Traditional views on gender roles in dating are becoming more prominent, with expectations for both men and women increasingly shaped by conservative ideals,” says Jessica Åkerström in a statement, Head of Analysis at the Youth Barometer.

Unlike the Boomer generation, which enjoyed economic stability and lived in a secure and prosperous society for most of their lives – with well-paid jobs, affordable housing, social security, controlled and minimal immigration, and extremely low crime rates – the younger generations have faced worsening conditions in nearly every area.

Most generations following the Boomers, have experienced social and cultural disintegration and decadence over the past decades. This includes uncontrolled mass immigration, particularly illegal immigration, the dissolution of traditional gender roles through liberal ideologies like feminism and LGBT, an increase in crime, poverty, unemployment, and widespread social misery, among other challenges.

All of this combined may help explain why many young people seem to have woken up, turned their backs on society, and begun seeking a return to more traditional values. This is a conclusion that the survey itself appears to support, showing a clear decline in young people’s faith in society.

Many no longer believe that politicians are capable of solving the problems created by decades of mismanagement. Confidence in “democracy” is also waning among the youth, as last year’s 2024 survey highlighted.
