Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated during a press conference, that Russia will not abandon Russian-speaking people in Ukraine by withdrawing from the country.
Instead, there are strong indications that Moscow is not satisfied with the territories it has already captured through its advances in eastern Ukraine, but wants to push further forward.
Lavrov said on Friday, “If the so-called government, which is basically Zelensky’s junta, believes that somehow an agreement will be reached on the cessation of hostilities and what remains of Ukraine will continue to live according to the laws that they have enacted – this is an illusion, this cannot be allowed under any circumstances.”
Lavrov called it a “crime” to leave Russian-speaking people in Ukraine under Zelensky’s regime, which bans the Russian language, according to Lavrov.
He pointed out that millions in Ukraine speak Russian as their mother tongue and vowed that Russia won’t allow this.
Lavrov: «Russia will not leave Ukraine under Zelensky’s junta and will not allow Ukraine to live according to the laws it adopted».

Their goal is not just 4 regions — it’s Ukraine’s very existence as a state, and Ukrainians as a people. It’s about erasure. pic.twitter.com/hh31b27OKX
The question many are asking in the proxy war against the West is whether Russia intends to take back all of Ukraine or just certain parts, in order to secure its borders against NATO’s eastward expansion plans. This remains to be seen.
US president Donald Trump claims that Russia aims to take “all of Ukraine”, something that has previously been denied by the Kremlin. Trump also said in an interview previously, that Russia won’t take all of Ukraine “because of me”.
